The Saint Vincent College women's bowling team wrapped up a successful week in Las Vegas with two strong finishes in Tier 1 US Bowling Congress events, hosted by South Point Bowling Center.

In the Glenn Carlson Invitational, SVC finished 8th in qualifying among 42 teams, and advanced to the bracket finals, before falling in their first-round match to #1 seed Calumet University.Â

In the Collegiate Shootout, the Bearcats finished a strong second in qualifying among 41 teams, trailing only Morningside University by just 11 pins over 9 rounds. The top 8 teams advanced to the playoffs, and the Bearcats advanced through the semi-final round to the four-team championship, before finishing third. The University of Northwestern Ohio won, while SVC finished just one pin behind second place Trine University.Â

Freshman
Savannah Douglass became the first player in school history to earn Tournament MVP honors in a Tier 1 event, finishing first among 244 individual competitors in the Collegiate Shootout with a 211.8 average.

Saint Vincent ended day one of competition in third place through five traditional games.Â
Mareana Pilyih opened the tournament with a 254 game, while
Lilly Houle finished with 7 consecutive strikes to help lift SVC to a 996 team score. For the day, the team averaged 187. On day two, SVC dropped to ninth place after the seventh of eight rounds, but battled back with a team score of 971 in the final round to move back into the top-8 and advance to the playoffs, before falling to Calumet in the opening best-of-five match, 3-1.Â
Mareana Pilyih's 221 was the high score for the day, followed by
Lexi Pilyih's 217.Â

Three Bearcats placed in the top-30 individually among 238 competitors.Â
Mareana Pilyih was 13th with an average of 197.8, while
Skyy Nicholls was 25th (191.9) and
Kaylie Kurland was 28th (191).

COLLEGIATE SHOOTOUT
The Bearcats got off to a fast start in the first round of the Collegiate Shootout, with a team score of 1024 which put the team in first place among the field of 41 teams.Â
Mareana Pilyih led the way with a 233, while Kurland (223), and
Savannah Douglass (201) also broke the 200 barrier.
SVC dropped to third place after game two, and held third the rest of the day. Douglass's five game scores, 201-221-215-233-189 earned her the individual title.Â
Mareana Pilyih finished tenth overall with a five-game average of 202.8.

Day two featured four rounds of four Baker team games, and SVC opened with totals of 722 and 723, which held the team in third. In the third round, the Bearcats lineup of
Lexi Pilyih,
Brooke Street,
Daphne Stuber,
Mareana Pilyih and
Skyy Nicholls put together games of 188, 205, 203 and 189, which boosted the team to second place, trailing Morningside University by more than 150 pins.

The team then finished the day with scores of 201-194-190-192 in the final round to hold second, and only miss first place by just 11 total pins (7741-7730).Â

The top eight teams advanced to the playoffs, with teams placed into two groups of four. The top two teams in each group would then advance to the finals. SVC managed only a 168 in the first game, but battled back with games of 204 and 189. Three teams were within 12 pins battling for the final transfer spot into the championship round, and Saint Vincent game through with a 229 game to finish with a four-game total of 790, good enough for second in their group and a ticket to the championship round.

In the finals, SVC was consistent, with games of 183-214-184-182, which placed them third behind UNOH and Trine.

SVC was led on day two by Douglass, with an average of 206.4, followed by Nicholls (202.6) and Mara Pilyih (190.7).

The Bearcats, ranked #17/#21 in two national polls, will return to action with a pair of local events to start the new year. The team will compete at New Great Valley Lanes in North Versailles the weekend of January 10-11 in the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Challenge and the Western PA Baker Shootout.
