LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 17) The Saint Vincent men's swimming team ended Saturday with a big win against Penn State Altoona, 148-107.
The team went out with a vengeance after losing to the Lions the past two seasons.
The day started off hot with a SVC win in the 200-yard medley relay. To start off the individual events freshman William Schauss, senior Jacob Bacasa, and sophomore Gabe Yant finished in second, third, and fourth place. The freshmen owned the 200-yard freestyle with Evan Zeni and Maxwell Huck touching in at second and third place.
To put down the first SVC individual win of the night senior Jacob Dzurica won the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Joseph Borneman kept the wins coming with an out touch in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Dzurica won the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke as well. The Bearcats had another second, third, and fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with senior Alex Leskovansky, Huck, and junior Soma Burt.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, the Bearcats swept the competition with a first, second, and third place win from sophomore Giovanni Guido, Borneman, and Zeni.
Freshman Owen Echegaray won the 100-yard butterfly and Schauss won the 200-yard individual medley with Guido closed behind in 2nd.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, January 23, competing in the two-day Western PA Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday evening.
