The Bearcat baseball team swept a doubleheader with Milwaukee School of Engineering in a big way, defeating the Raiders 14-11 in the opener before closing out the day with a 20-3 win in Auburndale, FL.

In the opener, Gary Gerhardt picked up the win in relief, striking out nine in five innings, before Jeff Bugajski earned the victory in the nightcap, working six innings and scattering nine hits.  The Bearcat offense racked 15 hits, and cashed in on four MSOE errors in game two, while the 34 combined runs tied a 28-year old school record for most runs scored in a doubleheader.

Max Henry started on the hill for Saint Vincent in game one, working two-plus innings, striking out five but giving up 7 runs.  However, the Bearcat bats provided plenty of support, giving Henry a 9-5 lead through the first two innings.

By the sixth, the lead had grown to 11-7, and SVC added another run in the top of the sixth to increase the lead to five, 12-7.  The Raiders then stormed back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one-run game, but Mike Hustava provided the insurance with a 2-run single in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Hustava went 4-for-5 with two triples - the first two triples of his career - and four runs batted in.  Zach Bush was 4-4, while Zack Galasso was 3-4.

In game two, the Bearcats struck early and often, scoring five runs in the first, one in the second, and adding 10 runs in the third inning en route to a 17-run victory.

Galasso and Grant Krally each hit 3-run home runs, while Hustava added another pair of triples.  Joe Aul was 2-3 and drove in five runs.

Bugajski did his part on the mound, walking just one and striking out six on the day while working six strong innings for the win.

Saint Vincent is now 2-1 on the year and will face Franklin College at 10AM on Tuesday in Auburndale, FL.  The game will air live on the Saint Vincent Sports Network.
