BOX SCORE

The Bearcat baseball team's bats came alive in its 11-4 victory over the Apprentice School in Newport News, VA.

Saint Vincent pounded out 18 hits, with seven Bearcats posting at least two hits, while pitcher Jeff Bugajski earned the complete game victory on the hill, as SVC snapped its four-game losing streak.

Jack Shaffer and Steve Bayko led the SVC offensive attack, each going 3-for-4, while AJ Kavinsky, Zack Galasso, Erik Fichter, Brad Burkardt and Grant Krally all posted two hits apiece.  Kavinsky had a team-high three RBIs, while Krally, Shaffer, and Zack Bush all had two ribbies.

After Apprentice took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, SVC answered back, as Galasso led off the top of the second with a triple, with Erik Fichter following with an RBI single up the middle.

Saint Vincent plated three more runs in the top of the fourth, with each of the first four batters of the frame tallying base hits.  Shaffer had an RBI single in the frame, knocking home Krally who doubled, while Bush and Kavinsky both recorded RBI groundouts in the inning.

The Bearcats effectively put the game away in the next inning, scoring four runs on five hits, with the big knock being a two-run double from Krally.

SVC closed out its scoring in the seventh, sending nine men to the plate and scoring three runs on six hits, with Kavinsky, Bush, and Joe Aul each picking up RBIs to make the score 11-2.  The Builders would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little, too late, as Saint Vincent avenged its doubleheader sweep at the hands of Apprentice a day earlier.

Bugajski earned his third career complete-game victory by allowing four runs on 10 hits, with four strikeouts against just two walks.

Cory Gallaway and Ryan Wagner each had two hits to lead the Builders (12-6), while Ethan Halberg started on the mound and was saddled with the loss, working four innings and allowing seven runs on 12 hits.

The Bearcats (4-6) are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, opening up the home portion of their schedule with a single, nine-inning affair against Mount Aloysius beginning at 3pm.
