The Bearcats downed crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg by a score of 6-2 at Bearcat Ballfield, thanks to strong pitching performances by Erik Fichter and Matt Tyson.

After Fichter got out of a jam in the top of the first, the Bearcats' Brad Burkardt led off the bottom of the first with a hit batsman, then moved to second on a bunt single by Zach Bush.  A fielder's choice groundout by Zack Galasso erased Bush at second but moved Burkardt to third.  With two outs, Steve Bayko was hit by a pitch to load the bases, then Mike Hustava hit a 2-run double to put the Bearcats on the board.  Jack Shaffer then singled home Bayko and Hustava to make it a 4-0 game.

In the bottom of the second, the Bearcats again scored with two outs, as Joe Aul singled, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch.  He then scored on a single by Galasso to give SVC a 5-0 lead.  In the fourth, the Bearcats added an unearned run - once again with two outs - as Burkardt scored from second on a failed pickoff attempt that went into center field and was misplayed by the center fielder.

It was more than enough for Fichter, who worked six strong innings, scattering eight hits, walking three and striking out six while giving up just one run.  Matt Tyson came on with a runner on first and no outs in the seventh, working the final three innings and yielding just one unearned run, while walking one and striking out three.

At the plate, Aul, Galasso, Hustava and Grant Krally each had a pair of hits.  Hustava's game-winning double was the only hit among SVC's 12 on the day that went for extra bases.

With the victory, SVC improves to 5-8, while UPG drops to 3-10 on the season.  The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, hosting Geneva College in a 9-inning, single game at 3PM at Bearcat Ballfield, weather permitting.  The game will air live on the Saint Vincent Sports Network.

SCHEDULE NOTE...The SVC/Bethany matchup that was originally slated for April 23 has been moved to Wednesday, April 20.  It will remain a home doubleheader.
