Behind a home run and double from
Zack Galasso, the Bearcats came from behind to win in 10 innings on the road over Thiel College in PAC competition.
AJ Kavinsky drew a walk with the bases loaded in the 10th frame for the game-winning run.
In the top of the second,
Andrew Kozusko was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. It was his conference leading and school record 14th HBP of the season. He then moved to third on a double by
Erik Fichter, and scored on a groundout by
Mike Hustava.
Two innings later, the hosts took advantage of three Bearcat errors and took a 3-1 lead, and added another run in the fifth, thanks in part of another SVC error and a wild pitch.
In the top of the sixth,
AJ Kavinsky led off with a double, and
Brad Burkardt followed with a walk. That set up a two-run double by Galasso that made it a one run game, 4-3.
An inning later,
Alonzo Vazquez singled with one out, then moved to second when
Vince Murphy reached on an error. Kavinsky then followed with his second double of the game, scoring Vazquez to tie the game.
In the 8th, Galasso led off with a towering home run to right field, putting the Bearcats back in front, 5-4. However, in the bottom of the 9th, a single and an error put the tying run at second, and the runner was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Eric Steininger then singled home the tying run.
The game went to extra innings, and the Bearcats drew two walks to lead off the inning, to Fichter and Hustava. After Vazquez bunted the runners ahead 90 feet, pinch-hitter
Grant Krally also drew a walk, loading the bases. Kavinsky then drew the fourth walk of the inning, putting SVC in front.
Jeremy Mains, who came on in the 8th in relief of
Paul Kubeja, closed out the win with a 1-2-3 inning.
Kubeja worked 7 solid innings, yielding just two earned runs while striking out five. Mains earned the win in relief, working three innings and giving up one run.
Saint Vincent is now 18-10 on the year overall, 8-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, which puts the team in third place behind Westminster and W&J. SVC will face Westminster on the road in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
