The Bearcats lost to the Apprentice School Builders by a score of 11-2 on the road in the final game of a weekend series in Hampton, VA.

Newport News scored three times in the first and twice in the second off SVC starter Eric Reitz (0-1).

Saint Vincent came back with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.  Geo Muzika led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, then Michael Vrbanic and Vince Murphy each drew walks.  With the bases load, Matt Loftis hit a grounder to third, but Muzika beat the throw home to score the Bearcats' first run.  Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly by Grant Krally brought home the other Bearcat run, but SVC managed just five hits on the day overall.

Several Bearcat relievers pitched well on the day, including Steve Janik, who tossed three innings and gave up just one run.  Michael Patsch (photo) and John Malone each threw one scoreless inning.

Jon Pauley was the lone Bearcat with two hits on the day, going 2-for-2.

With the loss SVC drops to 3-6 on the season, while the Builders improve to 16-3.

The Bearcats are slated to return to action on Tuesday at Penn State-Altoona, weather permitting.
