Senior hurlers Jared Haller and Gary Gerhardt kept Westminster College off the board for a combined 14 innings as the Bearcats swept the Titans by identical scores of 1-0 in the conference-opening twinbill.

The Bearcats opened the 2013 conference slate with a 1-0 win, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Nick Grow uncorked the pitch with Joey Fearer on third base, scoring the game's lone run.

Jared Haller tossed the complete game shutout for SVC.

Ron Sullivan took the loss for Westminster, giving up just three hits in 6 1/3 innings.  Grant Krally had two singles for the Bearcats while Gary Gerhardt had the other hit.  Gerhardt's single came in the 7th, after Fearer had reached on a walk.  Pinch hitter John Malone then hit into a fielder's choice that erased Gerhardt but moved Fearer to third, setting up the game winning wild pitch.

Haller (1-2) scattered eight hits on the day, walking one and striking out eight, earning the victory.

In game two, a Vince Murphy bases-loaded single drove in the game's lone run in the second inning, and Gerhardt took care of the rest, giving up just four hits while striking out three.

Gerhardt (2-1) has now thrown 25 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run.

Saint Vincent is now 2-0 in the conference and will be back in action on Wednesday, hosting Grove City, weather permitting.
