Andrew Kozusko hit a walkoff triple in the bottom of the ninth to score
Tanner Master, as the Bearcats earned a come-from-behind 4-3 win at Bearcat Ballfield over Geneva College.
With the win, SVC is now 8-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Starting pitchers Doug Sanson (Geneva) and
Joey Fearer (SVC) locked up in a duel for much of the game, which began just after 5PM due to a 75-minute lightning delay. Neither team scored until the bottom of the 7th, when
Brad Burkardt led off with a double for the Bearcats, then moved to third on a single by
Grant Krally. With one out, Kozusko singled to center to score Burkardt.
Jordan Britcher then doubled home Krally, giving SVC a 2-0 lead.
After Fearer yielded a single and a walk to lead off the 8th inning,
Jared Haller made his first relief appearance of the year, but gave up a three-run home run to Mike Jeffreys, making the score 3-2.
In the bottom of the 8th, with Jeffreys now on the hill for the Golden Tornadoes,
Nick Beamenderfer punched a double down the right field line, and Burkardt came through with a clutch RBI single, tying the game.
After Haller shut down the GTs in the top of the ninth, Master led off the bottom of the ninth by drawing a walk against new pitcher Tanner Propst, setting up Kozusko's game-winner.
Fearer worked 7 strong innings, giving up 2 runs and tallying a career-best 8 strikeouts, against just one walk. Sanson worked 6 1/3, giving up just 4 hits and two runs for Geneva.
Haller (4-2) picked up the win in relief, giving up one hit and striking out two in two innings.
TJ Lambert had three hits for Geneva (9-14, 4-7 PAC).
Saint Vincent is now 11-7 overall. The team returns to action on Thursday, hosting Pitt-Greensburg.
UPDATE: Thursday's game has been moved to a 1PM start due to anticipated weather issues.
