BOX SCORE
The Saint Vincent baseball team completed its season sweep over Westminster College with a 6-3 victory on the road.
Andrew Kozusko hit a solo home run and his brother Alex earned the save in relief of winning pitcher
Chris Storm, as SVC improved to 4-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
Nick Beamenderfer hit a one-out single in the top of the first, moved to second on a single by
Brad Burkardt, then scored on a
Grant Krally single to give SVC a 1-0 lead.
After Westminster tied the game on an unearned run in the bottom half of the first,
Andrew Kozusko led off the second by blasting a home run into the lake beyond the left field fence to make it 2-1. Later in the inning, Kavinsky singled home
Joey Fearer, who had reached on a bunt single, increasing the lead to 3-1.
However, the Titans added runs in the second and third innings to tie the game at three, and it remained that way until the sixth.
Fearer led off the top of the sixth win a single to right, then
Gary Gerhardt doubled to deep left field, moving Kavinsky to third. A throwing error on the play by the left fielder allowed Fearer to score and moved Gerhard to third.
Vince Murphy then singled home Gerhardt. After Murphy stole second, Beamenderfer singled to move him to third, and Murphy later scored on a sacrifice fly by Burkardt.
Alex Kozusko entered the game in the bottom of the 6th with two runners on an no outs, and proceeded to shut down the Titans the rest of the way.
Steve Janik started and worked 4.1 innings, giving up 2 earned runs and striking out two. Storm worked 2/3 of an inning for the win, while Kozusko worked four scoreless innings to pick up the save.
At the plate, Beamenderfer and Krally each had three hits, part of a 16-hit Bearcat attack. Kavinsky, Burkardt, and Fearer each had two hits.
Saint Vincent (7-6 overall) will host Waynesburg University in PAC action on Friday at 3PM at Bearcat Ballfield.
