The Bearcats scored in all but one inning and pounded out 12 hits en route to a 12-5 win over Penn State-Altoona in game one of a non-conference doubleheader at Bearcat Ballfield, before posting a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, AJ Kavinsky started the game with a double for the Bearcats.  After Vince Murphy was hit by a pitch, Hunter Williams doubled home Kavinsky.  Murphy later scored on a sacrifice fly by Joey Fearer, making the score 2-0.  Later in the inning, Jon White doubled to score Williams.

After the Lions got a run in the top of the second, Geo Muzika doubled to lead off the bottom of the inning.  Kavinsky drew a walk, then both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Murphy.  Ben Webb singled home both runners to increase the SVC lead to 5-1.

The Bearcats extended the lead in the fourth inning.  Kavinsky and Murphy were hit by pitches to start the inning, then Webb reached on a perfectly placed bunt single.  With the bases loaded, Williams was hit by a pitch to score Kavinsky.  Chris Winkler then drove in a pair of runs with a single, giving SVC an 8-1 lead.  A sacrifice fly by Fearer, his second of the game, scored Williams to make it 9-1, en route to a 12-5 victory.

Kavinsky finished 2-for-2 with a walk, two doubles and four runs scored. Webb collected a pair of hits in going 2-for-3 with a team-best three RBI.  Muzika went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. The trio of Fearer, Williams and Winkler each drove in two runs in the victory.

Freshman Tyler Frankel earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. He went 5.1 innings, scattering 10 hits and four runs (all earned), while walking three and striking out one.  Luke Spisak worked the final 1.2 innings.

For Altoona, Pat McHenry hit a pair of solo home runs and was 3-for-4.  Jared Daily took the loss.

Logan Madill got the Lions on the board in the top of the first in game two with an RBI double in support of starting pitcher Kurtis Krise.  However, the lead only held up until the bottom of the second inning.

Greg Martin doubled to center field to lead off the inning, then moved to third on a groundout by Jordan Britcher.  Jon White then singled up the middle, scoring Martin to tie the game.

Two innings later, Martin and White repeated their performance to give SVC the lead.  Martin again doubled to lead off, this time down the right field line, then once again moved to third on a groundout by Britcher.   White singled home Martin, giving SVC a 2-1 advantage.  Michael Vrbanic then followed with a single that moved White to third, and a wild pitch brought home White with the Bearcats' third run.  On the play, Vrbanic hustled all the way to third, and was in scoring position for a sacrifice fly by Joe Simsic that made the score 4-1.

SVC's Michael Patsch threw well on the hill, but yielded a two-run home run by Madill in the fifth inning that cut the margin to 4-3.  In the sixth, John Malone came out of the bullpen for the Bearcats, and got some support from White in right field, who gunned out a runner trying to advance to third on a single.

In the 7th, after a leadoff walk, Chris Storm came out of the bullpen and shut down the Lions, earning the save.

Patsch (1-1) gave up 7 hits in five innings, striking out three.  Martin, White and Collin Laguzza each had two hits.

Saint Vincent is now 6-9 on the year and has won three of its last four.  The team heads to Waynesburg on Friday afternoon for a conference game against the Yellow Jackets.  Game time is scheduled for 3PM but could be pushed back an hour due to expected morning rain.  Updates will be provided on the SVC baseball schedule page.
