The Saint Vincent baseball team fell behind early, 12-2, and were unable to complete a late-inning comeback, losing on the road to Waynesburg University by a score of 16-10.

With the loss, SVC is now 1-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

The Bearcats took an early 2-0 lead, scoring one run each in the first and the second innings.  However, the Jackets stormed back with one run in the 2nd and 10 in the third inning.

Their lead swelled to 12-2 before Saint Vincent loaded the bases in the 7th with no outs.  Jason Vater singled home a run to make it 12-3, then Luke Fox drew a walk, making the score 12-4, but SVC was unable to push any more runs across the plate.

After the hosts added a run in the bottom of the 7th, SVC fought back in the 8th.  Aaron Burger led off with a single, then TJ Kuny reached on an error.  Burger then scored on a wild pitch, as both Matt Loftis and Dustin Welsh drew walks.  Vater then walked to score a run, making it 13-6.  Dave Lattanzio then singled home a run, and Brennan Hoffer followed with an RBI single that made the score 13-8.  Burger, making his second plate appearance of the inning, singled again, driving home a pair of runs to make it a three-run difference, but it was as close as the Bearcats could get.

Joey Fearer (1-2) started and took the loss.  Mike Panchik was SVC's most effective reliever on the day, working 3 1/3 innings and giving up just one unearned run.

Saint Vincent is slated to host Waynesburg in a doubleheader on Saturday, weather permitting.  If the game has to be postponed, a Monday makeup is likely.
