Baseball drops 10-6 decision at Thiel

BOX SCORE

The Bearcats were unable to hold an early 5-0 lead, dropping a 10-6 decision at Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action to wrap up the season series between the two teams.

Collin Laguzza got the Bearcats on the board in the second inning with a sacrifice fly.  After Hunter Williams and Tanner Master walked, TJ Kuny reached on an error to load the bases.  Laguzza's fly scored Williams with the first run of the game, and was followed by an infield single by Vince Murphy that reloaded the bases for AJ Kavinsky.  The senior promptly cleared the bases with a double, giving the visiting Bearcats a 4-0 lead.

The lead ran to 5-0 in the third thanks to an RBI double by Master that scored Ben Webb.

After cutting the lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning, the Tomcats tallied five runs in the fifth inning on five hits to take a 6-5 lead.  However, SVC fought back to tie the game in the top of the 7th.  Jordan Britcher led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Master.  Laguzza then tied the game with his second sacrifice fly of the day.

Thiel came right back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs, and added two more in the 8th to put the game away.

Master had three hits on the afternoon to pace the SVC offense, while Britcher and Joey Fearer added two each.  John Malone (1-3) took the loss in relief of Greg Martin.  Luke Spisak worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Bearcats.

SVC is now 6-8 in the PAC, 11-16 overall.  The team returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Westminster College at 4PM at Bearcat Ballfield.
