BOX SCORE - GAME TWO

The SVC baseball team opened a twinbill at Grove City with a 5-3 victory thanks to solid performances from seniors AJ Kavinsky and Joey Fearer, then cruised to a 9-3 win in game two.

Kavinsky went 4-for-4 at the plate, scored twice and drove home one run, while Fearer picked up the win on the mound, working 5 2/3 innings and giving up just one earned run.

The Bearcats scored twice in the top of the first, as Kavinsky led off with a double, then scored on a Ben Webb double to make it 1-0.  Greg Martin followed with yet another double, scoring Webb.

After Grove City cut the margin in half with a run in the bottom of the first, Fearer bore down and kept the hosts off the board until the sixth inning,  Meanwhile, SVC added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth.  Collin Laguzza singled, then moved to second on a sacrifice by Matt Loftis.  Kavinsky then singled home Laguzza with the Bearcats' third run.  Webb later singled home Kavinsky, making the score 4-1.

The Wolverines added a pair of unearned runs in the sixth, but Dustin Welsh came out of the bullpen to get the final two outs of the inning and end the threat.   The Bearcats then added an insurance run on an RBI single by Tanner Master in the 7th.  Martin came on to earn the save, getting the final two outs.

SVC jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, with Brennan Hoffer supplying the big hit, a 2-run double.  A Vince Murphy single drove home Kavinsky in the second, giving the Bearcats a 6-0 advantage.

The lead was 6-3 going to the 7th inning, when Hunter Williams had an RBI single.  Joey Fearer brought home another run with a sacrifice bunt, and Hoffer added his third RBI of the game, this time on a single.

Mike Cramer (3-1) worked 5 1/3 innings for the win, while Martin worked the final inning and two-thirds of scoreless ball.  Master went 3-for-4, while Hoffer and Webb had two hits each, part of SVC's 12-hit attack.
