BOX SCORE - GAME TWO

The Saint Vincent baseball team took a trip to Greensburg and split a pair of non-conference games against Pitt-Greensburg, winning game one by a score of 9-4 before falling 9-1 in the nightcap.

The split moves the Bearcats to 17-18 on the season, while UPG is now 17-16.

In the opener, Saint Vincent plated a run in the top of each of the first three innings. The first inning saw AJ Kavinsky and Joey Fearer reach on infield singles and Kavinsky scored on an RBI single by Ben Webb, 1-0.

SVC scored a run in the second on a solo homer by Brennan Hoffer, but Pitt-Greensburg plated two in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.

Fearer led off the third with a solo homer giving SVC the lead back for good, 3-2.

In the fourth, SVC took advantage of a pair of Bobcat errors and trio of walks to score five runs. Chris Winkler reached on an error to lead off the frame and advanced on a bunt single by Vince Murphy. Hoffer then sacrificed both runners over to put a pair of Bearcats in scoring position. Both runners scored when Kavinsky reached on an error, 5-2.

Three straight walks to Webb, Hunter Williams and Greg Martin loaded the bases and scored a run and Tanner Master closed the scoring with a two-run single to left, 8-2.

Master added another RBI with a triple to right center in the top of the sixth, scoring Williams who walked earlier in the frame.

Starter Steve Janik earned his first collegiate win in the complete game. He scattered five hits and allowed four runs, only two of which were earned, while striking out three and walking none.

Kavinsky, Fearer and Webb, the Bearcats top-third of the order, each recorded a pair of hits in going a combined 6-for-11 with a pair of walks, four RBI and four runs scored. Master finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

SVC went with a younger lineup in the second game, as Joe Simsic paced the offense in going 2-for-3 with a run scored. John Malone recorded a sacrifice fly in his first plate appearance of the season to drive in the Bearcats' lone run. Jason Vater and Jon White collected SVC's two other hits.

Tyler Frankel took the loss after allowing five runs in 3.0 innings. Luke Spisak worked an inning of relief allowing just a solo home run, Kevin Silvio tossed an innings and Collin Laguzza pitched a hitless inning of relief with a strikeout and two ground outs in the three batters he faced.

SVC will conclude the Presidents' Athletic Conference season series with Thomas More on Wednesday, April 30, with a 2 p.m. contest in Crestview Hills, Ky.
