Thanks to strong performances from its five seniors, the Saint Vincent baseball team ended the 2014 season with a 3-2 win over Washington & Jefferson College on Senior Day in Latrobe.

Playing in their final games, seniors Joey Fearer, AJ Kavinsky, Geo Muzika, Tanner Master and Jordan Britcher all made significant contributions to the win.

Fearer went the distance on the mound, earning his fifth win of the season (5-2), giving up 8 hits, walking two and striking out four.

W&J took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but Master and Muzika teamed up to end a scoring threat.  With runners at the corners, Master caught a fly ball in right field and sent a long throw home to Muzika, who turned and applied the tag to get the runner trying to score from third to end the inning.

In the fifth, W&J added another run on a double and a pair of fly outs, making the score 2-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Muzika led off with a single to center, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kavinsky.  Ben Webb singled to left, scoring Muzika, cutting the margin to one run.

Fearer got into a bases loaded jam in the top of the 7th, but got a strikeout and flyout to end the inning, keeping the score 2-1.

In the bottom of the 8th, Muzika reached on an error to start the inning and was replaced by pinch-runner Luke Fox.  Kavinsky then hit a line drive double down the right field line, moving Fox to third.  Matt Loftis hit a grounder to short and was thrown out at first for the first out of the inning, but Fox scored on the play, tying the game at 2-2, and Kavinsky moved to third.  Hunter Williams then hit a ground ball that appeared to hit off his foot, but the ball was ruled to be in play and Williams was out at first, for the second out of the inning.  On the first pitch to Tyler Frankel, a passed ball allowed Kavinsky to score what would prove to be the winning run.

Fearer then pitched a scoreless 9th to seal the win.

Britcher had a pair of hits, and along with Muzika and Kavinsky had four of SVC's six hits.  Webb supplied the other two.

For Washington & Jefferson, it was just their third conference loss of the season, against 21 wins.

Saint Vincent ends the season with an overall record of 18-21, 12-12 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, finishing in 5th place.
