BOX SCOREPlaying their only evening game of the season, the Bearcats lost to Washington & Jefferson on the road by a score of 4-0.
Much of the game was a pitcher's duel between SVC's
Michael Patsch and W&J's Joe Vita. The Bearcats had an opportunity in the top of the fifth, when
Hunter Williams reached on an error and
Chris Winkler drew a walk with no outs, but were unable to push a run across. In the bottom of the fifth, W&J had three straight hits to get on the board, but Patsch quickly settled down and got out of the inning with no further damage.
In the seventh, SVC got a one-out single from
Eddie Kilkeary, and a throwing error moved him to second with one out. He moved to third on a groundout but was again unable to score. In the bottom of the inning, W&J got a one-out walk that chased Patsch. Reliever
Dustin Welsh was then tagged for a double that put runners at second and third. After an intentional walk, the next batter also walked, scoring a run to make it 2-0. The Presidents then added two more runs on a single and a sacrifice fly.
It was more than enough for Vita, who held the Bearcats to just five hits. Kilkeary was the lone batter with two hits on the evening. Patsch (0-2) took the loss, working 6 1/3, walking four and striking out four while giving up two runs.
Luke Spisak worked 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
SVC is now 9-13 overall, 4-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. W&J improves to 15-6, 7-3 in the PAC. The teams will wrap up their season series on Sunday (April 12) in Latrobe, with a 1PM doubleheader.
