Tyler Frankel went the distance on the mound, as Saint Vincent defeated Pitt-Greensburg 9-3 in a non-conference baseball game in Latrobe. Game two went to the Bobcats, 4-3.
SVC started the first inning with back-to-back bunt singles by
Luke Fox and
Dylan Kugler. After a sacrifice bunt by
John Malone moved the runners ahead,
Eddie Kilkeary drove home Fox with a sacrifice fly.
Ben Webb followed with an RBI single that plated Kugler. After
Hunter Williams was hit by a pitch,
Chris Winkler singled, scoring Webb to make the score 3-0.
The hosts added to their lead in the second, as Fox doubled with one out, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kugler to make it 4-0.
In the third, Webb doubled and moved to third on a single by Winkler, setting the stage for Burger, who responded with his second home run of the season, making it a 7-0 game.
It was more than enough for Frankel (2-1), who scattered just five hits over 7 innings, walking three and striking out two.
Webb and Fox each had three hits for the Bearcats.
In game two, the Bobcats tallied a run in the top of the first, but the Bearcats responded with a pair of runs in the second. Kilkeary led off with a double to deep center, then Webb followed with a triple down the right field line that tied the game. SVC went in front, 2-1, when a pickoff attempt at third went off the glove of the third baseman, allowing Webb to score.
UPG answered back quickly, taking advantage of three hits and a Bearcat error to take a 4-2 advantage in the third.
SVC got a run back in the bottom of the 5th, when Burger and Malone each walked with two outs. Kilkeary then singled to right, bringing home Burger to cut the deficit to one run.
The Bearcats threatened in the bottom of the 7th, when
John Malone doubled with one out, but the runner was stranded at third.
Spisak worked five innings, giving up just one earned run, walking two and striking out three, while
Mike Panchik worked two scoreless innings in relief.
