The Bearcats ended their three-game series against Thomas More with a 6-4 victory in Crestview Hills, KY.
Gary Gerhardt worked 7 strong innings to earn the win, then picked up near-perfect relief help from
John Malone and
Eamon Kelly, while the SVC offense came from behind to support the arms.
The Bearcats trailed 4-3 going to the eighth inning, when
Nick Beamenderfer led off with a single.
Andrew Kozusko followed with a walk, then both runners moved up on a sacrifice by
Jordan Britcher. After
Joey Fearer was intentionally walked to load the bases,
AJ Kavinsky landed a pinch-hit single down the left field line that put the Bearcats in front.
Matt Loftis then grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Fearer with an insurance run.
Kelly came on in the 9th with a runner on and shut the door on the Saints to pick up his first save.
SVC has clinched a playoff spot, and is now tied in the loss column with Thomas More and Thiel (7 each). Washington & Jefferson has a one-game lead and controls its own fate going into the regular season's final week.
Saint Vincent hosts Grove City in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2PM.
