The Saint Vincent Bearcats defeated Waynesburg University by scores of 5-2 and 13-2 in a twinbill on the road in Greene County.
SVC is now 7-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, tied for second place.
Game one remained scoreless into the third, when
Gary Gerhardt reached on an error, then moved to second on a passed ball. A sacrifice bunt by
Vince Murphy moved the runner to third, then
AJ Kavinsky followed with a triple that made the score 1-0.
Nick Beamenderfer then singled up the middle, scoring Kavinsky. Two batters later,
Grant Krally doubled to right, scoring Beamenderfer and giving the Bearcats a 3-0 lead.
That was more than enough for
Jared Haller, as the senior lefty went the distance to improve to 3-2 on the year.
SVC padded its lead in the fourth, when
Andrew Kozusko walked, followed by a single by
Joey Fearer. Gerhardt then singled home Kozusko. After another sacrifice by Murphy, Kavinsky hit a sacrifice fly to score Fearer to make the score 5-0.
Waynesburg added single runs in the fourth and seventh.
Haller scattered 8 hits on the day, striking out six against no walks.
Gerhardt started game two, and the Bearcats gave him a two-run cushion in the first inning. Kavinsky led off by drawing a walk, then moved up on a wild pitch. A double by Beamenderfer drove home one run, then a single by
Tanner Master brought home Beamenderfer for a 2-0 lead.
Waynesburg cut the margin in half in the second, but SVC added four runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach, then added four more in the sixth, and three in the seventh.
Beamenderfer had a pair of doubles, scored twice, and drove in four runs in the game. Kavinsky, Master and
Jordan Britcher each went 2-for-3, while Gerhardt went the distance, walking none and striking out three while giving up 8 hits.
Saint Vincent is back in action on Wednesday against Geneva College with a 4PM contest at Bearcat Ballfield.
