BOX SCOREPHOTO GALLERYThe Bearcat baseball team rallied for 8 runs in the eighth inning to erase a four-run deficit and pull out a 12-8 victory over Clark University in Winter Haven, FL.
SVC got off to a quick start, as
Luke Fox tripled to lead off the game, and after
Dylan Kugler walked, Fox scored on a failed pickoff attempt. Â Later in the inning
Chris Winkler Kugler scored on a wild pitch, and
Aaron Burger, who also drew a walk, scored on a sacrifice fly by
Chris Winkler to make it 3-0.
Clark answered quickly, with a pair of unearned and one earned run off SVC starter
Michael Patsch, tying the game, 3-3, after one inning.
In the fourth, SVC retook the lead. Â With two outs,
John Malone singled, followed by an infield single by
TJ Kuny. Â After Malone stole third, Fox singled him home, giving the Bearcats a 4-3 lead. Â
The Cougars again tied the game, this time on an unearned run in the fifth, then broke the game open in the sixth inning. Â Clark scored four runs on four hits, but with the help of two SVC errors. Â Three of the runs were unearned.
Clark added a run in the 7th, taking a 9-4 advantage into the 8th. Â
Winkler walked to lead off the inning, then moved to second on a wild pitch. Â
Eddie Kilkeary, who hit two home runs a day earlier, then sent a Kai Glick offering over the left field fence, cutting the gap to 9-6 for his third home run in two days. Â Malone followed with a single, and pinch-hitter
Joe Simsic added a single to put two runners on. Â Fox then delivered his second triple of the game, clearing the bases, and making the score 9-8. Â Two batters later,
Aaron Burger laid down a suicide squeeze bunt single that scored Fox, tying the game. Â
Ben Webb then doubled, moving Burger to third with the potential go-ahead run. Â After a pitching change, a wild pitch brought home Burger to put SVC in front, 10-9. Â SVC wasn't finished yet, adding two more runs later in the inning on a 2-run single by Kilkeary.
Dustin Welsh, who had come on to get the final out of the sixth inning, was in line for the win, but needed some help from the bullpen. Â In the bottom of the 8th, Clark loaded the bases but
Mike Panchik came on to get Teddy Dowling to fly out to center to end the threat. Â Panchik then pitched a scoreless 9th for the save.
The Bearcats pounded out 19 hits on the afternoon, led by Fox, who went 4-6 with two runs scored and 3 RBI. Â Kilkeary was 3-5 with four RBI, giving him 9 runs batted in over the last two games. Â Malone and Webb also each had three hits for the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent has now won three straight to even its season mark at 3-3, and will close out the Florida Spring Break trip on Saturday at 12:30, facing SUNY-Oneonta.
