BOX SCOREJohn Malone hit a walk-off game-winning double in the bottom of the 9th, and
Kevin Proctor pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief as SVC won its fourth straight game to end the Spring Break trip to Florida. The Bearcats defeated SUNY-Oneonta by a score of 10-9.
SVC scored one run each in the first two innings to open a 2-0 lead, but the Red Dragons tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd, then went ahead 3-2 after three innings.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Bearcats stormed back for four runs, with a double by
Ben Webb and a triple by
Eddie Kilkeary as the big hits.
Up 8-4 in the bottom of the 6th, SVC increased the lead by a run on one swing, as
Aaron Burger homered to left field, making it 9-4.
However, Oneonta scored five runs in the top of the 7th on five hits and a pair of SVC errors.
Proctor entered in the 7th and got the final out of the inning, then worked a scoreless 8th and 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, Webb was hit by a pitch to lead off, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kilkeary. After
Chris Winkler reached on an error and Webb held at second, Malone doubled home the game-winning run.
SVC had 16 hits on the day, as Kilkeary went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, and
TJ Kuny, Burger, Winkler, Malone and
Brennan Hoffer each had a pair of hits. Proctor earned his first collegiate win, striking out two.
Dylan Pietrantoni started and worked into the 7th, giving up four earned runs.
After an 0-3 start to the trip, the Bearcats finish the week 4-3 and now return home to Latrobe, before heading to Newport News, VA on Saturday for a three-game weekend tournament.
