BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (April 18) -
John Malone had 6 RBI, including a grand slam, and
Michael Patsch pitched 6 scoreless innings for Saint Vincent as the Bearcats defeated Geneva College 13-1 in game one of a road doubleheader, before winning game two by a score of 16-4.
The victories helped Saint Vincent to their first PAC series sweep of the season. The Bearcats are now within a game of .500 both overall (14-15 and in the conference (8-9). Meanwhile, Geneva dropped to 10-18 overall and 4-12 in PAC play.
Saint Vincent scored 13 runs after belting out 21 hits in game one of the twinbill.
Eddie Kilkeary went 4 for 4 with three runs scored, while Malone added two hits and six RBIs.
Matt Loftis and
Aaron Burger both went 3 for 4.
Luke Fox,
Ben Webb and
Chris Winkler each added two hit efforts as well.
After taking an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Bearcats tacked on five runs in the third inning before adding seven more in the top of the fourth. From there on it was smooth sailing, as Geneva only mustered one run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Patsch got his first win of the season, allowing five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work.
After falling behind in game two, SVC scored six runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. The Bearcats took advantage of four walks and two hit batters in the inning to post a crooked number.Â
Saint Vincent would tack on three more runs in the 5th inning, once again SVC took advantage of Geneva mistakes, as the home team committed two errors in the inning. SVC added four runs in the sixth inning before finishing up the scoring with three more in the seventh inning. Kilkeary had two RBIs in the inning.
Dylan Pietrantoni worked 5.1 innings for the victory on the mound. The freshman allowed four runs on seven hits, while striking out four batters. Malone, Webb and Burger all finished with multi-hit efforts in the nightcap victory.
SVC returns to action with a nonconference doubleheader at Penn State Altoona on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
