After splitting a doubleheader two days earlier, the Bearcats and Waynesburg Yellow Jackets met in Greene County to decide the series, and the hosts emerged with a 7-4 victory, thanks to a 6-run seventh inning.
SVC took a 1-0 lead in the first when
John Malone scored on an
Eddie Kilkeary single. Â The lead increased to 2-0 in the third when
Luke Fox hit a solo home run, his second of the season, in the third inning.
Up 2-1 in the 7th, the Bearcats added a pair of runs. Â Fox singled to lead off, and
Dylan Kugler's sacrifice bunt attempt turned into an infield single, putting two runners on base. Â Malone bunted both runners ahead 90 feet, and
Ben Webb came through with a 2-run single that made the score 4-1.
However, in the bottom of the 7th, Waynesburg took advantage of a pair of SVC errors to go along with four hits, plating six runners to pull away to a 7-4 victory.
Tyler Frankel started for SVC, working 6 1/3 innings and giving up three earned runs, walking none and striking out six. Â
Dylan Pietrantoni (1-5) took the loss in relief. Â
Dustin Welsh worked the final inning and a third of scoreless relief.
Kilkeary was 3-for-4, while Fox and Kugler each added two hits.
SVC is now 9-12 overall, 4-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Â The team returns home on Saturday, April 11, hosting Washington & Jefferson in a 1PM twinbill.
