BOX SCORE After splitting a doubleheader two days earlier, the Bearcats and Waynesburg Yellow Jackets met in Greene County to decide the series, and the hosts emerged with a 7-4 victory, thanks to a 6-run seventh inning.
SVC took a 1-0 lead in the first when
John Malone scored on an
Eddie Kilkeary single. The lead increased to 2-0 in the third when
Luke Fox hit a solo home run, his second of the season, in the third inning.
Up 2-1 in the 7th, the Bearcats added a pair of runs. Fox singled to lead off, and
Dylan Kugler's sacrifice bunt attempt turned into an infield single, putting two runners on base. Malone bunted both runners ahead 90 feet, and
Ben Webb came through with a 2-run single that made the score 4-1.
However, in the bottom of the 7th, Waynesburg took advantage of a pair of SVC errors to go along with four hits, plating six runners to pull away to a 7-4 victory.
Tyler Frankel started for SVC, working 6 1/3 innings and giving up three earned runs, walking none and striking out six.
Dylan Pietrantoni (1-5) took the loss in relief.
Dustin Welsh worked the final inning and a third of scoreless relief.
Kilkeary was 3-for-4, while Fox and Kugler each added two hits.
SVC is now 9-12 overall, 4-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The team returns home on Saturday, April 11, hosting Washington & Jefferson in a 1PM twinbill.
