LATROBE (April 20) - The Saint Vincent baseball team earned a split of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with Washington & Jefferson at Bearcat Ballfield, dropping the first game, 7-2, before rallying to win the nightcap, 7-1.
With the split, the Bearcats remain in first place atop the PAC standings with a 9-3 record in league action and 13-11 overall mark. W&J, who entered play in the four seed in the conference, moves to 13-6 in the PAC and 17-10 overall.
In the first game, W&J got six runs (three earned) off of Bearcat starter
Jared Haller in 3.1 innings.
Eamon Kelly and
John Malone worked the final 3.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing a combined two hits and one unearned run. Kelly was perfect in his outing, tossing 2.2 innings and not allowing a base runner.
Five Bearcats had a hit, including doubles by
Grant Krally and
Nolan Russell.
The Bearcats struck first in game two when
Andrew Kozusko hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning, 1-0.
The Presidents answered with a solo homer by Ronny Peirish in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game, but SVC erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame to open up a 7-1 lead.
With one out, Krally and Kozusko were both hit by pitches and Russell walked to load the bases, prompting a pitching change.
Tanner Master singled to drive in the first run, before Kozusko scored on a wild pitch.
Jordan Britcher brought home Russell and Master then scored to put SVC ahead, 5-1. After
Gary Gerhardt reached on a bunt single and advanced on a throwing error,
AJ Kavinsky delivered a two-run single as SVC posted six runs in the inning.

Joey Fearer was excellent in the second game, improving to 2-0 on the year while allowing just three hits and one run while striking out five and walking two.
Britcher led SVC with two hits in the second game while Kavinsky had two runs batted in.
The two teams wrap up the season series on Sunday, April 21, with a single-nine inning game at W&J, scheduled for 1 p.m.
