Eddie Kilkeary hit a pair of home runs, and
Steve Janik worked 7 strong innings on the mound as SVC defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering by a score of 13-2 in Winter Haven, FL.
The Bearcats found themselves behind 2-0 after an inning, as the Raiders got off to a quick start with a pair of hits and a hit batman. Â SVC got a run back in the top of the second, as
Chris Winkler drew a walk, advanced on a single by Kilkeary, then scored on a single by
Brennan Hoffer.
The score remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth, when
Joe Simsic led off with a single. Â Two batters later,
Ben Webb took over at first after a fielder's choice, and
Dylan Pietrantoni kept the inning alive with a single. Â Winkler singled home Webb to tie the game, sending Pietrantoni to third and advancing to second on the throw. Â
Matt Loftis then delivered what would prove to be the game-winning hit, a two-run single. Â Kilkeary doubled home Loftis to make it 5-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
In the sixth, SVC added two more runs. Â
Luke Fox laid down a bunt single to open the inning, and Simsic was then hit by a pitch. Â
Aaron Burger attempted to bunt the runners ahead 90 feet, but a throwing error by the first basemen allowed Fox to score and moved Simsic to third. Â After Simsic was picked off third, Burger stole second and scored on a single by Pietrantoni.
An inning later, Loftis led off with a single and Kilkeary launched his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot that ran the lead to 9-2. Â Meanwhile, Janik was in command on the hill, working seven innings, keeping MSOE off the scoreboard after the first.
In the top of the 8th, Webb was hit by a pitch, and Pietrantoni doubled to move Webb to third. Â Winkler singled home Webb to make it an 10-2 game. Â Loftis then grounded out, scoring Pietrantoni and setting the stage for Kilkeary, who followed with his second home run over the left field fence, making the score 13-2.
Mike Panchik pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and the game was stopped due to the tournament's 10-run rule.
On the afternoon, Kilkeary, making his first start as a Bearcat, went 4-for-5, scored twice, and drove in five runs. Â Loftis finished the day 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI, while Winkler was 3-4, scored three times and drove home two runs. Â Pietrantoni also had a three-hit day, going 3-5 and scoring twice. Â In all, SVC had 18 hits in support of Janik (1-1), who scattered 7 hits, walked one and struck out three.
Saint Vincent is now 2-3 on the season and will face Clark University (MA) at 1PM on Friday afternoon in Winter Haven, FL.
